Welcome and Workshop Introduction

Fixed WiMAX is here now and already viable and profitable. Mobile WiMAX is coming but not ready for deployment in emerging markets. Initial deployments of 802.16e WiMAX technology may be used for fixed and nomadic rather than mobile broadband. There is a need to match available spectrum and licensing process to appropriate services. Availability of certified products will add future guarantees. Key considerations include time to market vs. lost revenue, cost per Subscriber vs. price of CPE, business broadband vs. consumer bundled services opportunities.
