The Road to 4G
 |
Rao Yallapragada
Sr. Director, Qualcomm Mobile Broadband |
This presentation will frame the debate over the alternative technology paths to the next generation of mobile networks that are designed for high speed broadband connectivity to mobilize the Internet. While the 3GPP is working to define the technology migration paths to improve the UMTS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS) mobile phone standard to cope with future requirements, the CDMA community is looking to the 3GPP2 for guidance on EVDO technology evolution based on a OFDM modulation technology and new MIMO antenna technology. Complementary developments are in process in the core network with the introduction of an all IP network.
This presentation will highlight Qualcomm's viewpoint on the complex set of technology choices 3G Mobile operators in the EMEA face on the road to 4G.

A diverse set of technologies are being deployed and a variety of innovative business models will be tested in emerging markets of the EMEA region. Some will target the digital divide bringing basic broadband to unserved consumers, while others will combine VoIP and high speed data services for small business, or offer triple play bundles with telephone, broadband and pay TV.
This session will showcase the diversity of WiMAX technologies and business model innovation including government agencies in Africa, competitive carriers in Eastern Europe, license exempt and unlicensed operators in the Middle East. |
